US District Judge Rules on NJ Sports Betting

A U.S. District Judge ruled in favor of the NCAA and four major professional sports leagues last Friday and issued a permanent injunction to prevent New Jersey casinos and racetracks from offering sports betting. Judge Michael Shipp wrote that New Jersey’s latest efforts — the 2014 Sports Wagering Law — violates the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992.

New Jersey plans to appeal this decision. Monmouth Park Racetrack in Oceanport, NJ has been ready to allow people to place bets since October. However, they have faced several obstacles over the last two months. The racetrack posted on their Facebook page that they plan to allow fantasy sports wagering in the meantime. No announcement has been made on the details of how that will be configured. NJ Sports Betting has been a popular issue over recent years and the battle still continues.
