Second trial begins alleging link between Johnson & Johnson baby powder, mesothelioma.
The Newark (NJ) Star-Ledger reports that on Monday, opening statements began in a Middlesex County, NJ trial against Johnson & Johnson over allegations that use of the company’s baby powder exposed an area man “to asbestos, which lead him to develop mesothelioma, a deadly cancer that affects tissue in the lungs and abdomen.” The cancer victim and his wife are seeking monetary damages. This is the second case alleging a link between Johnson & Johnson’s talc products and mesothelioma. In the first case in 2017, “a Los Angeles Superior Court jury favored J&J in a similar lawsuit in which a 61-year-old woman said she developed the cancer, also because of her use of the company’s baby powder.” The latest suit alleges “J&J knew its products contained asbestos, but didn’t properly warn its consumers.”
