A Monmouth County beach was closed on Tuesday because of high bacterial levels in the ocean water. A testing of the water in Beach D at Sandy Hook yielded results that showed high levels of bacteria. Those going to the beach were directed to other areas in the national park such as beaches C, E, Gunnison and North.
The National Park Service posted a notice on its website:
Sandy Hook Beach D is CLOSED. This closure will remain in effect until further notice. Please visit one oif our other lifeguard-protected beaches (C, E, Gunnison and North). Lifeguards are on duty 10 am to 6 pm.
